Thuli´s story

What does community mean to you?
Community is the people we surround ourselves with – the people we are responsible for and connected to, whether through a shared lived experience, a cultural background, or other factors.
How do you find your community?
Honestly, through WhatsApp groups, Instagram, and different community spaces – cultural activities, parties, festivals.
How do you celebrate yourself and your community?
I cheer for my community. I buy their products, I look at their creations and celebrate them. When I’m looking for someone to collaborate with, I look within my community first. That kind of networking and staying connected is very important to me.
What makes we are village unique?
It’s a space that feels very diverse in what it offers – so much beautiful art, so many different kinds of workshops, and very talented people who bring their talents together to co-create a space that is genuinely beautiful and inviting.
Can you share a moment at we are village that felt meaningful or stayed with you?
The first time I facilitated a workshop at Stretch Festival. There were around forty people in the room, and a lot of them started crying during the workshop. It was such a powerful moment of collective experience – we were all feeling it together, and we were all there for each other. That was very beautiful.
