Description
How loneliness damages LGBTQIA+ health and what to do about it
A talk and a conversation with Dr. Dr. Dominique Piber
In cooperation with the The Berlin State Office for Equal Treatment and Against Discrimination (LADS), Village.Berlin has set itself the goal for 2023 of tackling the issue of loneliness in the queer community.
The starting point of our program will be a talk by Dr. Dominique Piber (Charité Berlin) on loneliness and health of LGBTQIA+, held in our space at Kurfürstenstraße 31/32. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion afterwards.
Not only since the Covid 19 pandemic LGBTQIA+ people have been exposed to a higher risk of psychological stress, mental health problems, minority stress, social exclusion and a variety of forms of discrimination. These experiences of multiple discrimination, both structural and individual, are often accompanied by chronic feelings of loneliness.
In his lecture, Dr. Dominique Piper will summarize the health impacts of loneliness in the LGBTQIA+ community and identify strategies to counteract this development. Afterwards there will be time to ask questions and to discuss the topic further. We also want to talk about which offers are needed and how specific programs and events can be designed for and with queer people in order to create a greater sense of community.
