A Sense of Belonging Across Generations
*build connections. share experiences. shape the future.
Queer Generations is a cross-generational community project by we are village. It brings together younger and older queer people to create spaces for connection, exchange, mutual support, and a sense of belonging.
Queer people experience isolation, exclusion, and invisibility at different stages of life—though to varying degrees. While older queer people are often confronted with physical and cognitive limitations, loneliness, and social invisibility, many younger queer people face challenges such as mental health issues, precarious living conditions, social isolation, and a lack of visible role models for diverse queer lifestyles.
Queer Generations creates spaces where these experiences can engage in dialogue with one another. After all, a strong community emerges where knowledge, stories, and perspectives are shared across generations.
Berlin has a diverse queer infrastructure. Nevertheless, there are few places where people of different generations can regularly connect with one another, learn from each other, and build lasting relationships.
The result is isolation, a lack of visibility, and the loss of valuable experiences and memories within the community. At the same time, social polarization and anti-queer violence are on the rise. This makes spaces that strengthen cohesion, solidarity, and resilience all the more important.
Queer Generations sees itself as a response to these challenges. The project creates opportunities for younger and older queer people to connect and fosters a community culture based on mutual recognition, care, and participation.

*our formats
Creative Workshops & Thematic Working Groups
In cross-generational workshops, we explore topics such as queer history, activism, mental health, care work, aging, and community. Creative methods such as writing, storytelling, performance, and audio work open up new ways to give voice to personal experiences and share them with one another.
Intergenerational Salons
Our salons create a space for open conversations about social, political, and cultural issues that matter to queer people. People from different generations engage in dialogue, share experiences, and develop new perspectives on shared challenges.
Volunteer Program & Community Leadership
Older queer people are supported in actively contributing their experiences to the community—for example, as hosts, group leaders, mentors, or event organizers. Accompanying training sessions build skills in facilitation, trauma-informed communication, and community work.
Community and Leisure Activities
Picnics, movie nights, cooking gatherings, walks, and other informal get-togethers create accessible opportunities for interaction and connection. They foster relationships that can last beyond individual events.
Knowledge Transfer & Networking
Together with experts, organizations, and network partners, we develop approaches for intergenerational, intersectional, and queer-sensitive practices. The insights we gain are shared through professional events, workshops, and collaborative projects.
Sports & Exercise Programs
Regular sports and exercise programs for queer people of all ages that focus on physical activity, health, and well-being. Low-barrier activities such as mobility training, boxing, or functional training promote strength, endurance, and flexibility in a discrimination-sensitive environment—without pressure to perform and outside of traditional gyms.
