Queer Bridges: Queer Contact Improvisation Class + Jam
with Makisig
The Queer Contact Improvisation Class + Jam offers individuals who identify as Queer and who have experienced displacement and/or with a migration background a space of learning and practicing Contact Improvisation with others who also share these intersectional identities.
Contact Improvisation is a research based improvised dance form that includes touch, momentum, physics, consent, risk and play. The class centers queer BIPoC folx to create a space of empowerment while dismantling white supremacy.
The space will focus on dancing, sharing, moving at the speed of trust (adrienne maree brown), community dreaming, and thriving as we empower each other through community and dance. No previous experience is necessary.
Makisig Akin (they/them): I am a queer, transgender Filipino born choreographer, dance artist, facilitator, and activist. I hold spaces, both choreographically and educationally, by examining how survival strategies can be translated into a communal physical practice, which I then use as a catalyst to a potential creative healing process. I am also a co-founder with Nara Virgens of the Emerging Change Tanzfestival, a dance festival featuring and curating Queer and BIPoC Artists and their collaborators. www.makisigakin.com

Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with migration experience.
Queer people with migrant backgrounds in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.
With the support of the Deutschen Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.
✅ Our Queer Bridges program will continue to evolve and we are always happy to hear about your needs. If you are interested, you can send us an e-mail to stay informed about further updates.
