Description
All about Queer Crip Community Building
with Breandán Drewes
In the public discourse on experiences of discrimination and marginalization in the LGBTIQA+ community, there is often a lack of awareness of the perspectives of multiple- marginalized (intersectional) members. Even though progress has been made in this regard within the larger community in recent years and decades, especially the lived experiences of queer people who are disabled / being disabled, have chronic illnesses or see themselves as neurodivergent are at best a niche topic in this debate.
To counteract this problem, this event will focus on the experiences of queers who are affected by ableism.
How can we “build” a community that is more inclusive and in which multiple marginalized people can feel a sense of belonging to counteract intersectional loneliness?
As the issue of disability / chronic illness can potentially affect any person during their lives, everyone is cordially invited to take part in the event.
There will be a presentation followed by a discussion.
In order to facilitate a successful, less anxiety-ridden discussion, a text on safer and braver spaces can be read voluntarily in preparation, which is available at this Link . This three-part podcast series on emotions in the context of learning about discrimination is also highly recommended (episodes #12, #13, #14).
