Description

Body Cartographies - Queer Bridges

with Sabrina Szych and Yusa Jacobo

Body Cartographies is a laboratory space to collectively map and embody migratory processes, based on the MUAMI project. This workshop aims to provide artistic tools and to accompany the process of identity re-elaboration that happens when a person changes territory as being queer.

We are interested in creating a collective space to trace physically and symbolically the meeting points that give meaning to our own migratory experience in the context of Berlin, Germany.

Through these encounters we encourage the participants to reconnect with their own body, to re-signify and embody the multiple distances that are part of this process. In this laboratory we unfold from Body Expression techniques, Cartographies and maps, painting and poetic writing.

Sabrina Szych (She/ Her) is an Argentine multidisciplinary artist who specialized in performing arts. She studied at the National University of Arts, Buenos Aires, developing as a choreographer in Body Expression. Sabrina is part of an investigation project called “Physical Painting” in which dance and painting dialogue. She has been teaching dance through somatic practices and improvisation for nine years. In 2024 she moved to Berlin, working in various stage spaces with lights and designs.

Yusa Jacobo (she/they) is a queer bipoc artist from Argentina based in Germany. She holds a degree in Choreographic Composition with a somatics & improvisation perspective from the National University of the Arts of Buenos Aires. She’s dedicated to artistic and pedagogical research considering the body as the matrix of her practices that circulate between dance, ceramics and poetry. Yusa is interested in creating spaces that connects micropolitics, art, somatics and social change.

Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with migration experiences.
Queer people with migrant backgrounds in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.
With the support of the Deutsche Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.
✅ Our Queer Bridges program will continue to evolve and we are always happy to hear about your needs. If you are interested, you can send us an e-mail to stay informed about further updates.
