Description
Melodrama in Motion - Inspired by Fragancia
with Munir Arreola
This workshop invites participants to explore improvisation through the lens of connection, care, and collective presence. Participants will engage in physical and creative exercises rooted in contact improvisation, developing trust, adaptability, and a shared movement language.
Together, we’ll explore the emotional and physical weight of gestures such as the embrace and lifts, working with the body as a space for dialogue and expression. Through guided improvisation, we’ll investigate how touch, support, and exaggeration can shape narrative and connection in dance and movement.
The workshop is inspired by Fragancia, a choreographic piece that draws from the romantic and dramatic aesthetics of telenovelas. It explores the tensions and tenderness of care, using movement as a vehicle for theatricality, affection, and storytelling.
Munir Arreola is a Berlin-based emerging dance artist exploring identity, queerness, and migration. Influenced by his Latino-North African roots, his work draws from Mexican and Moroccan cultures, blending contemporary, flamenco, ballet, and modern dance. He has presented work in Berlin and Mexico City and performed with various artists from the Berlin scene. With a background in Visual Arts, he directs dance for “Puticlub Berlin” and the “Queer Arab Collective.”
Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with migration experiences.
Queer people with migrant backgrounds in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.
With the support of the Deutsche Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.
✅ Our Queer Bridges program will continue to evolve and we are always happy to hear about your needs. If you are interested, you can send us an e-mail to stay informed about further updates.
