“Somatic” comes from the Greek soma, meaning the living body. It focuses on how movement feels, not just how it looks. Bellydance becomes a dialogue between body and feeling, with movement arising from the belly, breath, organs, and memories. This workshop offers LGBTQIA+ migrants a safe space to reconnect with bellydance, embody it without shame, and move from sensation rather than performance, fostering ease, honesty, and communal support.

Description

Somatic Bellydance

with Minu Elsherif

The word “somatic” comes from the Greek soma, meaning the living body. It emphasizes body awareness from the inside out—how movement feels, not just how it looks. Bellydance is a dialogue between body and feeling, and a somatic approach listens deeply to that dialogue, letting movement arise from the pulse of the belly, breath, organs, and memories. This workshop is designed for LGBTQIA+ migrant individuals and communities, offering a safe space to reconnect with bellydance, embody it without shame, and move from sensation rather than performance, fostering ease, honesty, and communal support.

Minu is a queer, Berlin-based belly dancer, actor, and performance artist with a strong focus on somatic movement. Alongside their artistic practice, Minu is currently studying Body-Mind Centering and has explored a wide range of somatic workshops and movement education over recent years. Their Somatic Bellydance sessions grow directly from these studies, blending dance, embodiment, breath, and presence in a gentle, accessible way. Committed to open and community-oriented sharing, Minu offers welcoming spaces that honor diversity and inclusivity. Their workshops invite all identities and bodies to explore movement, sensation, and self-connection with curiosity, care, and openness.

Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

Queer people with experiences of migration and/or displacement in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.

With the support of the Deutsche Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

✅ Our Queer Bridges program will continue to evolve and we are always happy to hear about your needs. If you are interested, you can send us an e-mail to stay informed about further updates.
