Become your own fantasy: Hairstyle Workshop – Queer Bridges

Dysphoria and struggles around hair and appearance are common within the queer community and in many context of origin, especially for gender non-conforming people. This workshop invites participants to bring a visual reference; such as drawings or photos, along with a mirror and their questions. Together, we’ll explore, experiment, and share techniques to help you achieve your desired look, feel more comfortable in your body, or begin developing and elevating your drag persona in a supportive, playful environment.

Lau is a multidisciplinary non-binary artist working primarily as a hairdresser and makeup artist for stage, film, fashion, and advertising. Based in Berlin, they are closely connected to the local queer scene. A former drag performer and lifelong club kid, Lau combines their skills across disciplines and shares them through workshops. They have led many gender-affirming hairstyling and makeup sessions for queer and TIN* communities, including projects with König and workshops for gender studies students from Stockholm University visiting Berlin.

Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

Queer people with experiences of migration and/or displacement in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.

With the support of the Deutsche Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

General Information
Participants: This workshop is for all who identify as LGBTQ+ and have experienced migration and/or displacement. If you don’t share these experiences but are interested in joining please reach out to us first to see if space is available. We ask that all participants respect the program’s core focus and contribute to fostering an open respectful space.
