Description

What we hold: Exploring memory through textile – Queer Bridges

with Joachim Perez

In this Sewing Workshop, participants will engage with the craft of textile reconstruction, transforming fragments of discarded fabrics and worn garments into new, evocative forms. Through foundational sewing techniques, we approach stitching not merely as a skill but as a disciplined, contemplative practice—a medium for exploring memory, identity, and renewal.
Participants will be guided to layer textures and colours, discovering the artistry in each stitch and fold, as they reimagine fabrics imbued with their own histories. This is an invitation to view sewing as a form of tactile storytelling, where materials once overlooked are transformed into meaningful compositions.
More than a craft, this workshop is a reflective practice. Together, we will cultivate a mindful rhythm, creating unique pieces that bridge personal experience with collective themes. Each stitch becomes an expression, each thread a connection—revealing the quiet beauty in reclamation and self-discovery.

Fabric will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own.

Joachim Perez creates large-format installations that explore masculinity and the layered complexities of sexuality, weaving both personal and collective narratives. His work merges fabric, embroidery, carved linoleum, and intricate drawings to construct immersive environments around themes of sexual and sensual awakening. A Parsons School of Design graduate, his work has been exhibited internationally, with shows in Germany, Japan, Switzerland, France, Romania, and the United States.

Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

Queer people with experiences of migration and/or displacement in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.

With the support of the Deutsche Fernsehlotterie Stiftung, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

✅ Our Queer Bridges program will continue to evolve and we are always happy to hear about your needs. If you are interested, you can send us an e-mail to stay informed about further updates.
