Description

Outdoor – Berlin Wall Trail – Section 12 – from Lichterfelde Süd S-Bahn Station to Lichtenrade S-Bahn Station

with Harms Wulf and Daniel Salamon

The route from Lichterfelde to Lichtenrade is one of the most scenic sections of the Wall Trail, even though only a few visible traces of the former GDR border fortifications remain today.

The route from Lichterfelde to Lichtenrade is one of the most scenic sections of the Wall Trail, even though only a few visible traces of the former GDR border fortifications remain today.
Right at the beginning of our hike, we pass one of the longest sections of the cherry tree avenues commemorating German reunification in 1990. The cherry trees and the explanatory sign were donated by Japanese citizens.

When the path turns east at the end of the avenue, a wide view opens up before us over the Osdorf fields and the former sewage farms. The abrupt transition from urban development to open fields once again makes the decades-long violent division of the city tangible in a striking way.

Before we finally reach the Lichtenrade S-Bahn station, we have the opportunity to end the hike in a relaxed atmosphere in the café of the Alte Mälzerei library.

What’s Village Outdoor?
Village outdoor Events are monthly meetups for the we are village community and their friends to enjoy outdoor activities in and around Berlin.
Activities include forest hikes, bike tours, swimming in lakes, sightseeing, and kayaking. Each month features a free and easy walk or hike in Berlin or its surrounding areas, accessible by public transport.

Harms Wulf Harms already knows Berlin from the times of division. Since then, he has explored the urban and natural spaces of Berlin and its surroundings both professionally and privately.

Daniel Salamon has enjoyed Nature and the outdoors since a very early age, has had a yoga practice since the late 1990s, and a growing interest in therapeutic and sensual touch. He has been involved in various ways with the Village, and the Radical Faeries (globally) since 2013. He lives in Berlin, has a garden in furthest Brandenburg, and can be found adventuring in other places mostly in Winter.
