Outdoor – Spreewanderung durch Berlin: von Ruhleben bis zum Tiergarten

The last hike of 2025 takes us along a little-known but surprisingly diverse stretch of the Spree River in western Berlin – from Ruhleben to the Tiergarten.
Right at the start, the path runs directly along the riverbank, through a quiet, elongated allotment garden colony. At the end of this peaceful section, the view opens up to Charlottenburg Palace Gardens with its atmospheric landscapepark, baroque gardens and small park buildings.
After the palace bridge, the more urban part of the tour begins: a series of riverside promenades where historic industrial sites alternate with architecturally striking new buildings. The juxtaposition of old brick facades and glass office buildings makes Berlin’s past and present particularly visible.
To conclude our hike, we stop at the café by the Neue See in the Tiergarten, where we enjoy a hot drink and a crackling campfire, bringing the hiking year to a pleasant close.
What’s Village Outdoor?
Village outdoor Events are monthly meetups for the we are village community and their friends to enjoy outdoor activities in and around Berlin.
Activities include forest hikes, bike tours, swimming in lakes, sightseeing, and kayaking. Each month features a free and easy walk or hike in Berlin or its surrounding areas, accessible by public transport.
Harms Wulf Harms already knows Berlin from the times of division. Since then, he has explored the urban and natural spaces of Berlin and its surroundings both professionally and privately.
