Description
Village Outdoor – Berlin Wall Trail
with Harms Wulf & Daniel Salamon
Section 1 – from the Brandenburg Gate to the Berlin Wall Memorial
The first stage of our Berlin Wall Trail exploration begins -of course- at the Brandenburg Gate, the symbol of the former division of Germany and Berlin. From here it goes along the Spree through the government district to the main train station and Hamburger Bahnhof. Here we follow the Berlin- Spandau Shipping Canal and visit one of the oldest cemeteries in Berlin, the Invalidenfriedhof. Via the Chausseestraße we reach the loca:on of a former border crossing, which was one of the first to be opened on 09.11.89. Via the Protestant Cathedral Cemetery and a park-like path on Gartenstraße, we reach the end point of today’s hike, the site of the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauer Straße. Distance: approx. 8 km, a stopover in a café is planned.
The Village Outdoor Events are a monthly gathering for the we are village community and their friends to explore the outdoor nature in Berlin and beyond including forest hikes, bike tours, lake swimming, city sights, kayaking in the surrounding countryside and more. The foundation of the Outdoor Events is a free and relatively easy walk or hike once a month in Berlin’s green areas and locations reachable within the S&U Bahns.
