The Angelic Conversation is an iconic work by Derek Jarman, celebrated for its evocative and radical visualization of Shakespeare’s love poems. Judi Dench’s emotive readings of 14 sonnets are coupled with ethereal sequences of figures on seashores, by streams, and in colorful gardens.
Shot on Super-8 before being transferred to 35mm film, the unique technical approach results in a striking aesthetic, with Coil’s languorous soundtrack completing the intoxicating effect. This film is a landmark in experimental cinema, renowned for its dreamlike quality and artistic innovation.
